Students took a 30 point quiz over Chapter 6, which we then graded. I presented a lecture on Napoleon, his early life and rise to power. We will continue our study of Napoleon in January.

Students took a quiz over Chapter 6.4 the American Revolution, which we traded and graded.
Today we began our study of the French Revolution. I presented a brief lecture to introduce the Old Regime and Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette. We began watching a film about them and will continue that the next class period. You should be reading and studying Chapter 7. There will be a quiz over sections 1 & 2 next Thursday. The final test at the end of the semester will be over Chapters 6 & 7. Students had a quiz over Chapter 6.1-3, which we then traded and graded.
We learned a little about Baroque, Classical and Romantic music and watched a performance of the first movement of Beethoven's 5th Symphony. Students compared the American Revolution with the United States war in Vietnam. There are many parallels between the two conflicts. We made a list of 9. Study these carefully in preparation for an essay question on a future test. Class ended with the CNN Student News. Today we studied Hobbes, Locke, Voltaire, Montesquieu, Rousseau, Beccaria and Wollstonecraft and began to learn how their ideas are the foundation of much of our system of government and way of life in the United States. Students began a writing assignment which you can find on the Assignments Page. This should be completed by Tuesday, when you will turn in all your notes and writings from Chapter 6.
We also watched the CNN student news. Over the next two weeks we are studying Chapter 6. Today we learned a little about late medieval scientific ideas, then students read about new ideas and technologies of the Renaissance. While they read, students took notes on 1) new ideas and technologies, 2) the person responsible for each and 3) the impact or results of each.
There was a brief presentation over this same material which further explained the work of Copernicus, Brahe, Kepler and Galileo. |
