We looked at the state of the Roman Catholic Church in the early 16th century, then at reasons why Luther disagreed with some church teachings and practices, leading to his discovery of righteousness by faith and arguments against the sale of indulgences. Tomorrow we look at Calvin, then on to Henry VIII, Elizabeth I and the Anglican Church.
Students completed the map of Renaissance Italy and chose which artwork to research and teach the class.
Students who were gone to Football Tournament will chose on Tuesday. The following are still available:
We looked at the art of the Northern Renaissance, reviewed information in Chapter 1 sections 1 & 2, then took a quiz over these sections. Almost everyone scored high!
Be sure you download the Renaissance Art PowerPoint and study it with your art handout. The test over art will be in a couple of weeks. On Tuesday we began our study of the Renaissance, learning why it began in Italy and some ideas and people central to the story. We also began looking at some artwork. On Wednesday we reviewed ideas and people from Chapter 1.1, then finished looking at art of the Italian Renaissance. You can download the PowerPoint art presentation you saw in class - go to the Downloads page. Use this to help you learn about the art, using your handout.
Also begin deciding which artwork you would like to research for a brief class presentation. You will be the teacher, telling the story behind the art. |
