We discussed Chapter 11 Section 3. this afternoon. The breakup of the Ottoman Empire created conditions for conflict between peoples who gained their independence, such as the Greeks and Serbs. Russia wanted increased access to the Black Sea and Red Sea, which brought them into conflict with Great Britain and France. The French built the Suez canal, which then allowed the British easier access to India, their "Jewel in the Crown". The discover of oil increased tensions as British and French companies set up business deals with Persia and the Ottomans, which then led to tensions as Persia wanted more independence. The British also invaded Afghanistan to create a buffer between Indian and Russia.

Hi fellow historians. I'm sorry I didn't keep up this blog while I was home sick. Thanks for your prayers and concern for my health - I appreciate it so much!
Today 8 students gave their Ancestry Project presentation. We will have more presentations next class period. We watched more of the film Credit Where It's Due and will finish the film next Tuesday. Read and study Chapter 11, Sections 3 & 4. In your reading you will learn some of the back story to topics we studied at the beginning of the year: the tension and conflict between India and Pakistan and between Israel and its neighbors. Next week we will have a Quest over these topics and Chapter 9. It's good to be back with you! |
