Today we began our study of the Renaissance, focusing on the Italy. If you need a little extra time to finish something next week. that's OK. Just, don't put off finishing assignments.
To help prepare for our study of the Reformation and as part of our Middle East study, we looked at religion today. Students already knew quite a bit and by sharing what they knew we were able to chart the major divisions in Christianity (Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant), identify some Protestant denominations (Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, Lutheran, Episcopal, Congregational) and identify the two major divisions within Islam: Sunni and Shia. Some students remembered the name Abu Bakr (the Sunni successor to Mohammed) from 7th grade (way to go, Mr. Phillips!). Next week we begin our study of the Renaissance and Reformation. We will be studying Chapter 1. We began class with a quiz over Chapter 19 Sections 3-5 and the map of Asia.
We spent the rest of class watching China Revealed. Both classes have about 10 minutes of film left to view on Friday. |
