Our lesson today was events in Asia during the early cold war. We discussed the Chinese civil war between the Communists and Nationalists, the political fallout in the U.S. from Mao's victory, then the Korean War. Students were surprised to learn that the Korean War has never ended.
Our young historians have a short research project on Korea. The questions can be found in Assignments on the Home Page. The format can be found in the course syllabus. Remember to cite sources at the end of your paper. We discussed plagiarism and academic honesty, the consequences of plagiarism in college, and the importance of learning to summarize and synthesize information in your own words. This assignment will be due on our first class meeting after September 6.
We finished by watching the CNN Student News.
