Today we focused on the Seven Years' War, beginning with a Crash Course video. I helped students answer questions about this world war as we watched the film. We then discussed the long-range impact of the war. Students then began researching the four questions concerning the Battle of the Plains of Abraham, which led to the French loss of their North American colony.

After watching a CNN report on the death of Fidel Castro, we briefly reviewed things we learned the week before Thanksgiving Vacation. We spent most of class discussing the clash between the Hapsburg Empire and the growing power of Prussia. This includes the 30 Years' War and the Peace of Westphalia, which set up the modern state system, the shifting alliances between England, France, Austria, Prussia and Russia, and the competition between Maria Theresa and Frederick the Great.
